Name of Product: Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods and Ariel Pods liquid laundry detergent packets packaged in flexible film bags. This recall announcement applies only to bags distributed in the United States.

Hazard: The outer packaging meant to prevent access to the contents can split open near the zipper track, posing a risk of serious injury to children and other vulnerable populations if the contents of the laundry detergent packets are ingested, as well as posing a risk of skin or eye injuries. Ingestion of a large quantity of any surfactant-containing household cleaning products can cause death among individuals with underlying health issues.

Remedy: Refund, Replace

Units: About 8.2 million (In addition, about 56,741 were sold in Canada)

Description: his recall involves certain lot codes of Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods, and Ariel Pods liquid laundry detergent packets packaged in flexible film bags that were manufactured between September 2023 and February 2024. Recalled products range from bags with 12 to 39 laundry detergent packets and include the following: 

Tide Pods Ultra Oxi Gain Flings Plus Odor Defense Ace Pods Clean Breeze Tide Pods Original Ace Pods Spring Meadow Tide Pods Spring Meadow Scent Ariel Pods Alpine Breeze Tide Pods Light  

Remedy: 

Consumers should immediately secure the recalled bags out of sight and reach of children and contact Procter & Gamble for a full refund and a free replacement child-resistant bag to store the product. Consumers can also receive a cabinet lock for securing laundry materials. 

Consumers should check to see if their bag is part of the recall by checking the lot code on their bag.  Recalled lot codes will be listed at pg.com/bags and are found on the bottom of the package.  Consumers with recalled bags can submit a photo of the recalled product, showing the lot code to participate in the recall.

Incidents/Injuries: No confirmed cases directly relating to this packaging defect. The firm has received four reports of children in the United States accessing the liquid laundry packets, three of which reported ingestion during the time period that the recalled lots were sold, but it is not known if these laundry packets came from recalled bags.

Sold At: Big Lots, CVS, Family Dollar, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Target, Walmart, and other major stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com and other websites from September 2023 through present for between $5 (one 12 ct. bag) and $30 (four 39 ct. bags in a box).

The model number and date code can be found on the bottom side of the seat. Only model number 100107 and date codes 21/3-23/10 (March 2021 to October 2023) are included in this recall.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled RideAlong seat and contact Thule Group to register for free replacement harness padding and to receive instructions on how to return the recalled padding. Thule is contacting all known consumers.

Remedy:

The crib sheets, quilts, mosquito nets, and other non-crib-bumper items included in the bedding sets are not banned under the Safe Sleep for Babies Act of 2021. However, parents and caregivers are reminded to use a fitted sheet only, and never add blankets, pillows, padded crib bumpers, or other items to an infant’s sleeping environment.

Name of Product: Grão de Gente Baby Nests

Hazard: 

The recalled baby nests violate the safety requirements of CPSC’s Safety Standard for Infant Sleep Products, posing a suffocation risk and fall and entrapment hazards to infants. The failures include not having a stand and not meeting the requirements for side height, sleeping pad thickness, and fabric-sided openings. The product’s sides are shorter than the minimum side height limit; the sleeping pad’s thickness exceeds the maximum limit; and an infant could fall out of an enclosed opening at the foot of the lounger or become entrapped. 

Additionally, the baby nest designs with head pillows violate the Safe Sleep for Babies Act of 2021’s ban on inclined sleepers for infants because their sleep surfaces are inclined greater than ten degrees. Infant fatalities have occurred in inclined sleepers, after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled pajamas away from children, stop using them, and contact Lovey & Grink for a full refund. Consumers who purchased the product will be asked to destroy the garments by cutting them in half and disposing of them in accordance with local and state recycling laws. Consumers must send a photo of the destroyed garment to recall@loveyandgrink.com. Upon receipt of the photo, consumers will be issued a full refund of the purchase price.

Name of Product: Magnetic Beads HIGH POWER 5mm

Hazard: The magnetic beads violate the requirements of the mandatory federal magnet regulation because they contain one or more magnets that fit within CPSC’s small parts cylinder, and the magnets are stronger than permitted. When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract each other, or another metal object and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death.

Description: This recall involves 5mm Magnetic Beads HIGH POWER AAA Grade, which are small, spherical, loose and separable magnets with a strong magnetic flux. The recalled Magnetic Beads HIGH POWER 5mm AAA Grade were sold as a strand in a clear, plastic bag. Stateside Bead Supply is printed on a label on the clear plastic bag packaging. The magnetic beads are gun metal gray in color.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled magnetic beads immediately, take them away from children and contact Stateside Bead Supply to receive a pre-paid label to return the recalled products for a full refund. Stateside Bead Supply is notifying all known purchasers directly.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported. CPSC estimates 2,400 magnet ingestions were treated in hospital emergency departments from 2017 through 2021. CPSC is aware of seven deaths since 2005 involving the ingestion of hazardous magnets, including two outside of the United States.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers about the choking risk associated with roller ball candy type products and advises them not to buy or use these products. The candy’s rolling ball can dislodge and become trapped in a child’s throat, posing a fatal choking risk. Last year, one child died as a result of this hazard and another required emergency surgery to remove the roller ball.

The Commission has issued three recall announcements for similar roller ball candy products, including Cocco Candy Rolling Candy, which was cited in the choking death of a 7-year-old girl; and Happiness USA Roller Ball Candy which was associated with the choking and hospitalization of a 7-year-old boy.   

The roller ball candies contain flavored liquid candy with a rolling ball applicator to apply onto the tongue. The bottles are resealable with a twist on plastic cap and a cylinder-shaped base. These types of products are sold by major online retailers as well as in stores.

CPSC urges all importers, distributers, and retailers to immediately stop importing, distributing, and selling roller ball candy type products.

CPSC urges consumers not to purchase or sell any candy of this type. Consumers should stop using and dispose of these products.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to immediately stop using and dispose of Comfi Baby Infant Walkers because they pose a risk of falls and entrapment to children. The products violate the federal safety regulations for infant walkers because they can fit through a standard doorway, are not designed to stop at the edge of a step and have leg openings that allow the child to slip down until the child’s head can become entrapped. 

CPSC issued a Notice of Violation to the seller, All Merchandise, of Charlotte, N.C., but the firm is no longer in business to offer a remedy to consumers. Consumers who purchased the product will receive this notice directly. 

The infant walkers were sold online at Amazon.com from October 2022 through March 2023 for about $100. The infant walkers contain adjustable height settings, and they have a teal or pink frame, a gray seat and a gray tray with toy attachments, and a push handle. “Comfi Baby” is printed on a label on the push handle and on the front of the top frame and the letter “M” is on the bottom front frame. “Babywalker” is stitched on the gray seat back. National Poison Prevention Week Highlights Hazards 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – During National Poison Prevention Week, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is highlighting serious, growing hazards facing young children, including a surge in unintentional poisoning from narcotics, and additional hazards identified with water bead products. 

CPSC’s Annual Report on Pediatric Poisoning Fatalities and Injuries

CPSC’s just-released report on unintentional pediatric poisonings found that 98 children under the age of 5 died from poisonings in 2022, a 66% increase from 2021. This increase was largely linked to narcotics and psychodysleptics. Deaths in this category nearly doubled in one year, from 33 in 2021 to 59 in 2022.

The report underscored the growing risks associated with these substances, with pediatric poisoning deaths in the U.S. rising steadily since 2019 from a low of 17 deaths in 2018; the lowest since CPSC was created in 1972.

Additionally, the report found that there were 68,600 emergency department-treated (ED-treated) injuries in children under 5 in 2022, a nearly 10% increase from the estimated 62,600 injuries in 2021.

Notably, the estimated injuries from pediatric poisonings involving acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and narcotics medications increased from 2021 to 2022:

• Acetaminophen incidents increased from an estimated 4,700 related ED-treated injuries to 5,700,
• Ibuprofen incidents increased from an estimated 2,000 related ED-treated injuries to 3,600, and
• Narcotic medication incidents increased from an estimated 1,200 related ED-treated injuries to 2,500.

“The recent rise in pediatric poisonings is heartbreaking,” said CPSC Chair Alex Hoehn-Saric.  “Keeping drugs, as well as cleaning supplies, laundry packets, and button batteries safely out of reach is vital to protecting children. The CPSC is committed to preventing such tragedies by enforcing laws requiring safe packaging of poisonous substances, holding companies accountable for selling deadly products, and arming caregivers with information on how to keep their little ones safe.”

CPSC Issues Product Safety Warnings for Water Bead Products

CPSC also today issued two product safety warnings related to new evidence pointing to toxicity in some water bead products, which may lead to adverse health effects in children.

In separate warnings, CPSC urged consumers to throw away water bead products from Jangostor and Tuladuo due to acrylamide levels that present the risk of toxicity. Neither Chinese company has agreed to an acceptable recall.

The product warnings highlight that water bead hazards can go beyond ingestion, expansion and obstruction inside a child. Acrylamide is a known carcinogen. The large water beads in CPSC’s warnings contain levels of acrylamide in violation of the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.  

CPSC data show that nearly 7,000 water bead-related ingestion injuries were treated in emergency departments in the U.S. from 2018 through 2022. CPSC is also aware of the death of a 10-month-old girl in 2023.

Protect young children from poisoning dangers following a few safety tips:

Drugs or Medications:

• Keep drugs and medications safely stored in a locked cabinet or box and out of the reach of children.
• Keep drugs and medicines in their original child-resistant containers and never in unsecured containers.
• Properly discard unfinished or unused drugs and medicines.

Water Beads:

• CPSC Recommendation: Remove water beads from any environment where young children may be present.
• Store water beads in a secure container and location where young children cannot easily access them.
• Do not allow children to play with water beads unsupervised.

Laundry Packets

• Store laundry packets in their original containers and out of a child’s sight and reach.
• Do not let children handle laundry detergent packets.

Household Cleaning Supplies

• Keep chemicals and cleaning supplies safely stored in a locked cabinet or box and out of the reach of children.
• Keep household chemicals in their original child-resistant containers.

Button Cell or Coin Batteries

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to immediately stop using Jangostor Large Water Beads. The large water beads contain levels of acrylamide in violation of the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.

If one of these large water beads is ingested, it can pose a risk of toxicity to children causing adverse health effects.

CPSC is also aware of two incidents in which two-year-old children each required surgery to remove Jangostor Water Beads after ingesting them. Ingested water beads can grow inside the body. This can cause severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, intestinal blockages, or life-threatening injuries that can require surgery to remove the water beads.

Jangostor, located in China, has not agreed to an acceptable recall. Consumers who purchased the product will receive this notice directly.  

The Jangostor Large Water Bead sets were sold online at Amazon.com from March 2017 through November 2023 for about $10. The product comes in two sizes, a bottle containing 11 ounces of large water beads and a bag containing 3.5 ounces of large water beads. The large water beads are partially hydrated and come in eight colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink and clear. The front of the packaging is yellow with “Jangostor” and “Large water beads” printed on the top left. The estimated number of pieces is printed on the left side in a red box; “Just add water” and “BOUNCY, Squishy, & Beautiful” are printed in a green box. “Made is China” is printed on a white sticker on the back of the container and the bag.

CPSC urges consumers to stop using Jangostor Large Water Beads immediately and dispose of the product in the trash.
