    Description: This recall involves Crate & Barrel Hampshire Cribs. The cribs were sold in blush, olive, white, gray and natural brown colors. The cribs have one of the following SKU numbers 246898, 534758, 534987, 535020 and 405394 along with the brand “Crate&Barrel” listed on a label located on the mattress support board.

    Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cribs and contact Crate & Barrel for a free repair or full refund. Crate & Barrel is contacting all known purchasers directly.

    Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 12 reports of incidents of the mattress support pins becoming loose. No injuries have been reported.

    Description: This recall involves kids’ bike helmets in size small, fitting a head circumference of about 18-1/2 to 20-1/2 inches. The helmets were sold in pink or blue with a sea world print and in orange or blue with a dinosaur print. All helmets have black padding, black straps and a black and red buckle. The helmets have a black plastic knob at the back of the helmet for adjusting the fitting. The model KY-E008 is printed on a white label on the inside of the helmet.

    Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and contact Chau River Sports Outdoors for a full refund. To receive a refund, consumers should destroy the helmet by cutting off the straps, and send photos of the helmet with the straps cut through the onsite messaging system by clicking on the “message” icon on Temu.com at Chau River Sports Outdoors store page as proof of destruction, then dispose of the recalled helmet.

    Description: This recall involves two styles of Sant and Abel children’s 100% cotton long pajama sets. They were sold in sizes 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-10. The neck label lists “Sant and Abel”, the size, and the fabric content. The side seam label lists the fabric content, washing instructions, and “MADE IN CHINA” and “MADE IN INDIA”. The long Henley and pant sets came in nine prints including Kids’ Sky Blue Stripe, Peony Stripe, Red Stripe and Navy Stripe PJ Sets; Kids’ Daisy, Horse, Candy Cane, Christmas and Wreath PJ Sets. The two-piece shirt and pant sets came in thirteen prints including Kids’ Leaf Pink, Green and Blue PJ Sets; Kids’ Gingham Pink, Blue and Green PJ Set; Kids’ Palm Tree Pink, Blue and Green PJ Sets; Kids’ Houndstooth PJ Set; Boys’ & Girls’ White Cambric PJ Sets; and the Girls’ Billie Neon PJ Set.

    Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled pajamas away from children, stop using them, and contact Sant and Abel for a full refund. Consumers should destroy the garments by cutting them in half and disposing of them in accordance with local and state recycling laws. Consumers should send the recalling firm a photo of the destroyed garment at returns@santandabel.comto receive a refund. Sant and Abel is contacting all known purchasers directly.

  • Like stealing data from a baby

    Last year, a Hawaii couple was convicted of living for decades under the identities of dead babies. Stories like this always disgust me, but after this long in tech, they don’t surprise me.

    Crooks have no shame, folks: 2% of identity theft cases reported to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) last year involved the personal info of Americans age 19 or younger. Many more go unreported, partly because they aren’t discovered until the victim attempts to apply for their first loan or credit card.

    Once thieves get your kid’s Social Security number, they only need basic info found easily online, like their address, name and date of birth, to take out a loan or line of credit in their name.

    Worse, you might be making these common mistakes that put your kid’s credit at risk — and you won’t realize it until it’s way too late.

    Identity swiper, no swiping!

    Here’s how to keep thieves from stealing your kid’s data.

    Step 1: Freeze your kid’s credit

    • Check their credit report (instructions here).
    • No one should have a credit report until they’re an adult, so no credit report is good news! If there is one, you know there’s a problem.
    • Ask the credit agencies to freeze your child’s credit. Do this as soon as you get their Social Security number.
    • Going forward, monitor their credit report just like you monitor your own. Go to annualcreditreport.com and sign up for alerts. You can read my full advice here.

    Step 2: Protect their info

    • Be skeptical: Identity thieves can be anyone from a relative, someone collecting payments at the doctor’s office or even a soccer coach. Be wary about handing over your kid’s SSN.
    • Lock it up: Put physical SSN cards and birth certificates in a fireproof document box and lock down digital copies with multifactor authentication or passwords.
    • Be social-savvy: Be careful about posting key identifying info related to your kid, like their birth date or physical address. No more pics of driving permits, either, OK?

    Step 3: Show your kid the ropes

    Gen Alpha, kids age 14 and younger, may be growing up with the internet, but that doesn’t mean they have adult judgment. Warn them of these common traps:

    • “Personality” quizzes that are fronts for data miners.
    • Questions from strangers on social media or video game chats.
    • Phishing emails; most kids have email addresses by the time they’re in their teens.
    • Handing over any info to curious strangers online.

  • Procter & Gamble Recalls 8.2 Million Defective Bags of Tide, Gain, Ace and Ariel Laundry Detergent Packets Distributed in US Due to Risk of Serious Injury

    Name of Product: Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods and Ariel Pods liquid laundry detergent packets packaged in flexible film bags. This recall announcement applies only to bags distributed in the United States.

    Hazard: The outer packaging meant to prevent access to the contents can split open near the zipper track, posing a risk of serious injury to children and other vulnerable populations if the contents of the laundry detergent packets are ingested, as well as posing a risk of skin or eye injuries. Ingestion of a large quantity of any surfactant-containing household cleaning products can cause death among individuals with underlying health issues.

    Consumers should immediately secure the recalled bags out of sight and reach of children and contact Procter & Gamble for a full refund and a free replacement child-resistant bag to store the product. Consumers can also receive a cabinet lock for securing laundry materials. 

    Consumers should check to see if their bag is part of the recall by checking the lot code on their bag.  Recalled lot codes will be listed at pg.com/bags and are found on the bottom of the package.  Consumers with recalled bags can submit a photo of the recalled product, showing the lot code to participate in the recall.

    Incidents/Injuries: No confirmed cases directly relating to this packaging defect. The firm has received four reports of children in the United States accessing the liquid laundry packets, three of which reported ingestion during the time period that the recalled lots were sold, but it is not known if these laundry packets came from recalled bags.

    Sold At: Big Lots, CVS, Family Dollar, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Target, Walmart, and other major stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com and other websites from September 2023 through present for between $5 (one 12 ct. bag) and $30 (four 39 ct. bags in a box).

  • CPSC Warns Consumers to Immediately Stop Using OmvedTherapies Baby Pillows Due to Suffocation Hazard; Violation of the Federal Ban on Infant Pillows

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to immediately stop using the OmvedTherapies infant pillows because they pose a suffocation hazard to infants. The pillows violate the infant pillow ban because of their flexible fabric covering, loose filling, and ability to easily flatten and conform to an infant’s body or face.

    CPSC issued a Notice of Violation to the manufacturer, Omved Lifestyle Pvt. Ltd., of India, but the firm has refused to recall these infant pillows or offer a remedy to consumers.

    The pillows were sold online at Amazon.com and Omved.com from February 2023 through February 2024 for between $20 and $30. The pillowcase is light gray with a bright yellow zipper and has the Omved logo of a large circle with a smaller circle beside it on the corner of the case. The inner pillow is filled with lavender and mustard seeds. The small pillow is 7.5 inches by 9.8 inches and the large pillow is 7.9 inches by 13.8 inches. The pillow also came with the “Baby Care Kit” and the “Mom & Baby Care” kit.

    CPSC urges consumers to stop using the infant pillows immediately, separate the pillowcase and pillow, and dispose of the pillowcase and pillow, as well as the lavender and mustard seed contents.

    Parents and caregivers are reminded:

    • The best place for an infant to sleep is on a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet or play yard.
    • Use a fitted sheet only and never add blankets, pillows, padded crib bumpers, or other items to an infant’s sleeping environment.
    • Infants should always be placed to sleep on their back. Infants who fall asleep in an inclined or upright position should be moved to a safe sleep environment with a firm, flat surface such as a crib, bassinet or play yard.

    Name of Product: Grão de Gente Baby Nests

    Hazard: 

    The recalled baby nests violate the safety requirements of CPSC’s Safety Standard for Infant Sleep Products, posing a suffocation risk and fall and entrapment hazards to infants. The failures include not having a stand and not meeting the requirements for side height, sleeping pad thickness, and fabric-sided openings. The product’s sides are shorter than the minimum side height limit; the sleeping pad’s thickness exceeds the maximum limit; and an infant could fall out of an enclosed opening at the foot of the lounger or become entrapped. 

    Additionally, the baby nest designs with head pillows violate the Safe Sleep for Babies Act of 2021’s ban on inclined sleepers for infants because their sleep surfaces are inclined greater than ten degrees. Infant fatalities have occurred in inclined sleepers, after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances.

    Description: This recall involves baby nests made of a cloth cover with a foam sleeping pad and padded bumper. The baby nests were sold with different printed fabrics, colors, and designs, as listed in the table below.  “Grão de gente” is printed on a tag sewn on the cloth cover.

    Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Grão de Gente baby nests and contact Zazaba International Inc. for instructions on how to properly dispose of the product and receive a full refund.  Zazaba International Inc. is contacting all known consumers directly.
